Mission
The CIM program at Chico State combines concrete technology with business administration to produce quality graduates for the concrete industry. The mission of the CIM program at Chico State is to prepare professionals for the concrete industry who have strong fundamental knowledge of concrete technology, management, safety, and business administration along with teamwork and life-long learning skills.
Vision
The Concrete Industry Management Program's vision is to continue to be recognized by the concrete industry for innovative education and research in concrete technology and management. Our vision is to continue to provide a collaborative and welcoming environment for students, for our colleagues, as well as for our industry partners.
Educational Goals
Educational goals define career accomplishments that our alumni are expected to achieve within a few years after graduation. CIM program graduates will:
- Be knowledgeable concrete technologists
- Be able to successfully manage concrete projects, concrete production, and concrete quality
- Be effective communicators, both in oral and written forms, and team players in multidisciplinary settings
- Expand their knowledge and adapt to the immerging technologies and practices in the concrete industry through lifelong learning practices
Student Learning Outcomes
Student Learning Outcomes are educational expectations that students should achieve by the time of graduation. Upon graduation, CIM students should have:
- An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and technology to technical problems
- A knowledge of modern techniques, tools and concrete construction methods
- An ability to conduct standard tests and experiments and to analyze and interpret data
- An understanding of principles of concrete production, efficiency and quality management procedures
- An ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms and demonstrate effective teamwork skills
- An understanding of the legal, professional, and ethical responsibilities of the profession
- An understanding of safe work practices pertaining to the concrete industry and recognition of the importance of a culture of safety
- An understanding of sustainability and resiliency of the built environment
- A recognition of the need for engagement in professional development
- An ability to create concrete mix designs and mix proportions
- An ability to apply basic accounting, economics, finance, marketing and management principles to create business plans and conduct financial analysis applicable to the concrete industry
- An ability to evaluate and analyze technical problems and to develop effective solutions
- An ability to utilize project drawings to develop cost estimates for concrete projects
- An understanding of project scheduling and project management principles
