Chico State is excited to participate in the #CaliforniansForAll College Corps! College Corps will provide Chico State students opportunities to support and learn from organizations and programs on and off-campus working in three priority areas: K-12 Education, Climate Action, and Food Insecurity.

Purpose
College Corps at Chico State has three core goals:
Goal 1: Engage college students in meaningful service opportunities that build leadership skills and civic responsibility.
Goal 2: Help students from diverse backgrounds graduate college on time and with less debt.
Goal 3: Support the work of community-based organizations focused on key local priorities.
This program is currently in the recruitment phase for cohort II and will begin August 2023. Additional information regarding recruitment will be sent out to campus in March-April.

About College Corps
As a College Corps Fellow, you will serve 450 hours in an area of K-12 Education, Food Insecurity, or Climate Action over the course of the 2023-2024 academic year (August 2023 - May 2024). This roughly averages to 15 hours a week.
As a College Corps Fellow, you'll receive:
- Up to $7,000 (pre-tax) living stipend (throughout term of service) + $3,000 Education Award upon completion of 450 service hours.
- Real-world job experience and skills to add to your resume.
- Access to training, networking, and professional development opportunities.
- Connections with fellows across the state via virtual platform and regional events.
- An academic course (3 units per semester) designed to support your professional learning throughout the experience.
- A sense of community and accomplishment in working toward the common goals of improving our community.
Eligibility
Students selected should meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Qualifies for a Federal Pell Grant
- Qualifies for a State Cal Grant or Middle-Class Scholarship
- Needs to work part-time and/or borrow student loans to meet educational costs
- Is an AB540-eligible student with a California Dream Act application on file (no work authorization required)
Additionally, Fellows are required to:
- Be a full-time (12 units), enrolled undergraduate student at CSU Chico
- No minimum GPA, but must be in academic good standing (not on academic notice)
- Commit to the program for the full 450 hours during the academic year
Service Areas
Fellows will work with K-12 schools, food banks/pantries, or climate action organizations to build healthier and more equitable communities across California. They will do this in a variety of ways:
- K-12 Education: Serve as a mentor or tutor to K-12 students in local schools and/or youth-serving organizations.
- Food Insecurity: Serve at food banks, food distribution centers, or centers providing access to community members facing food insecurity.
- Climate Action: Serve with local organizations that are focused on positive environmental change.
The College Corps staff will do their best to match accepted fellows with their top field choice, however, it is not guaranteed.

College Corps FAQ
- What is a fellow and what is a fellowship?
- Selected undergraduate students will be referred to as College Corps fellows throughout the duration of the program. To accept a fellowship, students unfortunately cannot be studying abroad during Fall 2023 or Spring 2024.
- The fellowship refers to the year-long commitment and service completed with an external community partner. As a College Corps fellow, you will be assigned an external community partner to work with and complete a majority of the 450 hours of service with this community host site.
- How do I apply?
- Complete the priority application by March 15, 2023. The application will include some short answer questions.
- Open to students from CSU Chico or transferring to Chico and beginning term Fall 2023.
- Once you start this application you cannot save and come back later. Please be prepared to complete your application in one sitting. Any started applications that have not been submitted will automatically submit after one week.
- Students awarded a fellowship position will be notified via email.
- Students who accept the fellowship program will be required to attend an information session and asked to complete additional materials, such as (but not limited to) resumes, to share with the host sites along with additional agreements. A background check will be conducted prior to final acceptance into the fellowship.
- Students who accept the fellowship must enroll in a 3-unit class each semester of the 23-24 academic year, focused on service leadership, professional and in-field development.
- Will this impact my financial aid?
- Each student's financial aid package needs very. To be considered for College Corps, an interested student needs to complete FAFSA or CADAA.
- When will I hear about selection if I am a Chico State student?
- Thank you for your patience as we read your applications and match with host sites. Our goal is to make College Corps Fellowship offers during Spring 2023 with host site placement notifications early summer. Fellows will be expected to return a few days prior to the start of Fall term begins.
- Are first-year students eligible to apply?
- Yes, incoming first year students can apply.
- Can current College Corps fellows reapply to serve a second term?
- College Corps fellows can reapply.
- Is there a separate application for returning College Corps fellows?
- All students complete the same application. However, some questions are only applicable to returners. For example, listing the number of hours served when the application is submitted and uploading a plan about how the 450 hours will be completed by the end of the academic year.
- Is the application deadline the same for returning College Corps fellows?
- The application closes on May 1, 2023. Priority application will close on March 15, 2023.
- Are College Corps returners required to attend an informational session?
- All students must attend one informational session to be eligible for the fellowship.
