Basic Processes for Commonly Submitted Curriculum Proposals

New Course (Course Addition)
  1. Complete and submit a Course Proposal or Change Request (CPCR)(opens in new window)
  2. Fill out the CME Curriculum Rationale Template (PDF) and submit it via e-mail to Dean Angela Trethewey. Please be sure to cc Associate Dean Deborah Summers, your department chair, and the CME Dean’s office ASC, Toni Darden
  3. Submit a New Course Proposal with the first 3 required signatures, Memo of Intent (PDF), and course outline/syllabus to the CME Dean’s office
  4. All documents will be advertised to the campus community for two weeks upon College Curriculum Committee approval

Delete Course
  1. Complete and submit a Course Proposal or Change Request (CPCR)(opens in new window)

    A Memo of Intent to delete a course is required only when any of the following apply:
    • Course is required in any program other than those of the originating department (check this via Course Usage Report(opens in new window))
    • Course is a listed elective in any program other than those of the originating department (check this via Course Usage Report(opens in new window))
    • Course is cross listed
    • Course is articulated with community college coursework
    • Course has GE, US Diversity, Global Cultures, or GWAR status

Major Change

    Major change is defined as:
    • Substantial change of course title or description (if a naïve reader cannot tell it’s the same course, it’s a substantial change)
    • Change of course level (renumbering from lower- to upper- or grad- divisions, or changes from upper – to lower division status)
    • Change of course status (add or remove GE, Global Cultures, US Diversity, Service Learning, GWAR)
    • Change of course units
    • Addition or deletion of laboratories or activities
    • Change to grading method
    • Change in semester offered
    • Change in pre-/co-requisites

Minor Program Change
  1. Fill out the form most appropriate for your program, complete with signatures:
  2. Attach a hard copy of the program from the current University Catalog with the changes clearly indicated in red
    • Include the complete degree program if the changes are to a major or option
    • When there are too many changes to clearly indicate with marked-up catalog copy, submit a new copy following catalog format and attach a hard copy of the current program with an “X” through the section being revised
    • Indicate mode of delivery for the program’s courses if other than regular (e.g., distance, cooperative, intercampus, etc)
  3. Attach an updated Major Academic Plan (MAP) with the proposal only if the change is to an undergraduate major or option.
  4. All documents to be submitted to the CME Dean’s Office and will be forwarded to Academic Affairs or Grad studies upon College Curriculum Committee approval

Special Topics

  2. Submit a Special Topics Memo of Intent (PDF), and course outline/syllabus to the CME Dean’s office
  3. All documents will be advertised to the campus community for two weeks upon College Curriculum Committee approval

  • General information for Special Topics Courses
    • Special topics courses can be offered for one semester only
    • Special topics courses cannot be required in a degree, minor, or certificate program
      • They may be included in a list of electives for any program
    • Special topics courses not advertised before the course is offered will not be approved; any sections already scheduled will have to be canceled
