College of Communication & Education

Becca Chanes

Becca Chanes has accumulated an impressive portfolio of work during her time at Chico State. She is an exercise physiology major and wants to become a science teacher.

Chanes has been the student senator for the College of Communication and Education (CME) during the 2017–18 academic year. In that role, she is the eyes and ears for the student body enrolled in the CME.

She communicates to, and advocates for, students regarding tuition and fee increases, campus policies and procedures, and she listens to students’ concerns and acts on their behalf.

Chanes is this year’s Outstanding Student Leader for the CME, which is a prestigious award sponsored by alumnus Lance Lew ’79 in honor of his father.

She is also a member of Alpha Delta Pi, she is a chemistry tutor, the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year through CAVE for her work with Adopt-A-Grandparent, and, most recently, she will perform the honor of CME student reflection speaker at our CME commencement ceremony.

She has also organized the second annual Inspirational Professor Award, where students can nominate a member of faculty who made a difference in their lives. This year’s recipient is Janell Bauer, professor in the Department of Journalism and Public Relations.

Chanes plans to enter the credential program at CSU, Dominguez Hills. She was accepted to the STAR (STEM Teachers in Advanced Residency) program. The STAR program is an accelerated program where she will receive her Master’s in Education and her science teaching credential. She plans to teach middle school science in an inner city school.
