Who's Involved

Participants, Mentors, Directors

Project MATH is based on recommendations from organizations such as the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Mathematical Association of America. Funding has been made possible from the National Science Foundation and the Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education.

Students: Project MATH students are a mix of incoming freshmen, change of majors, and transfer students, all with a common interest in becoming the best math teachers they can be.

Mentor Teachers: The mentor teachers are active middle and high school teachers who enjoy helping the next generation of math teachers learn about mathematics and the teaching of mathematics.

  • Alan Kaufman, Inspire School of the Arts and Sciences, Chico, CA (Project MATH Alumni)
  • Shaina Dickerson, Hamilton Elementary and Middle School, Hamilton, CA (Project MATH Alumni)

University Faculty: The Director of Project MATH, Dr. Stephen Strand, and Co-Director, Dr. Jorgen Berglund, are both mathematics educators that are committed to supporting students in becoming successful mathematics teachers.
