The fourth annual Women in Business (WIB) Summit strives to bring opportunities to women and underrepresented minorities in the business world who face a wide range of obstacles and experiences. Over the past three years, hundreds of individuals including students, small business owners, stay-at-home mothers, and other community members have benefited from this event. 

We are excited to have two powerhouse keynote speakers, Marisela Cerda from Microsoft and Eryn Evans from Target Corporation. This year's event also offers breakout sessions that touch on relevant topics for women in business. Some of these topics include: human resources, data analytics, entrepreneurship, and a financial panel. 

The conference wraps up with a networking session and the opportunity to chat with speakers and recruiters who have proven they are a good fit for women in business.

The WIB Summit is open to all genders and all students, faculty, staff, and community members. Breakfast and lunch are included.

Marisela Cerda | Keynote Speaker

Microsoft, Principal Engineering Program Manager

Marisela Cerda headshotMarisela Cerda was raised in a northern California farming town to a Mexican immigrant father and first generation Mexican-American mother. She graduated from Chico State with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 2001 and began her professional career at Microsoft Corporation, where she currently works as a Principal Engineering Program Manager in the Azure Engineering Organization. 

In her current role, Marisela is building an internal technical university platform that leverages community to enable deeper skills development and technical expertise in the organization. She also holds a Master of Business Administration from Seattle University and an Executive Management Certificate from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington.


Eryn Evans | Morning Keynote Speaker

Target Corporation

Eryn Evans headshotEryn Evans was born and raised in Walnut Creek, California. She attended Chico State from 2008 to 2012, graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Business with a focus in Project Management and minors in Marketing and Managing for Sustainability. While at Chico State she was the President of the American Marketing Association in 2009 and remained on the executive board until 2012. She was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority and the Project Management Association.

After graduating from CSU Chico she began her career at Target as a Service and Engagement Team Leader, then Executive Team Leader- Human Resources; Sr Executive Team Leader- Merchandising; and has been the Store Director at their Alameda location since 2018.

Eryn’s personal time is devoted to her family. She lives in Pleasant Hill, California, with her husband, Greg, and 15-month-old son, Connor.


Cheryl DeLany | Data Analytics Panel

Franklin Templeton, Senior VP of Distribution Operations

Cheryl Delany headshotCheryl DeLany is the Senior Vice President of Distribution Operations at Franklin Templeton Investments. In this role she is responsible for all data, analytics, and technology that enable global sales, marketing, and product teams to deliver an exceptional client experience. Cheryl has grown her career at Franklin Templeton since joining in 2002 after graduating from CSU, Chico with Business and International Economics degrees. 

Cheryl’s passions include solving complex problems, building incredible relationships, and mentoring/inspiring others to reach their potential. She grew up in a rural town near Chico and now lives with her husband, two daughters (ages 6 and 9), and a miniature labradoodle named Sully, in Granite Bay, California.


Stacey Axtell | Financial Panel

Stacy Axtell headshotStacey Axtell is a Financial Advisor, Vice President-Investments for Wells Fargo Advisors, committed to offering financial management to individuals, families, and businesses through long term client relationships, ongoing investment advice, and trust. Stacey’s passion is helping clients gain confidence in their financial future by attempting to make the seemingly complex simple and improving their current situation by partnering with them each step of the way.

Before joining Wells Fargo Advisors in 2015, Stacey was a Private Client Advisor for JPMorgan Securities. Stacey has over 12 years of experience in the finance industry, along with 10 years prior experience in insurance. Stacey grew up in the Silicon Valley under the mentorship of her father, in which he spent 36 years running the family business in insurance and financial services.


Denise Farrell | Human Resources Panel

Sierra Nevada Brewery, Human Resources Partner

Denise Farrell headshotDenise is a Human Resources Partner with Sierra Nevada Brewing Company in Chico. She has been in Human Resources for over 30 years in a variety of roles with experience in High Technology, Medical Device, Public Agency, Education, Not-for-Profit, and Production Brewery. Denise has held a variety of roles at many different levels such as Human Resources Generalist, Compensation Specialist, Employee Relations & Operations Manager, Director of Human Resources & Labor Relations, and currently HR Business Partner. Denise is focused on strengthening people leaders as strategic partners who focus on communication, employee relations, succession planning, and organizational development while working to increase the organization's emotional intelligence for value alignment.

Denise is a University of San Francisco graduate with a degree in Business, emphasis in Organizational Behavior. In addition, Denise has a UC Santa Cruz Extension Program certificate in HR Management, a Certificate in Coaching, and an EEO/AAP Investigator certification.

Denise and her husband (Class of 1990) raised their son (Class of ’21) and daughter in Paradise until the Camp Fire and now reside in Durham with their daughter (a senior and Dancer for North State Ballet), her mom, their dog Daisy, and their cat Hazel.


Amber Lowry | Entrepreneurship Panel

Syssero

Amber Lowry headshotAmber began working with Workday nearly 10 years ago as an employee. Following that experience, she interacted with the product from the perspective of a consulting partner, end client, and independent consultant. Being able to view the organization from all angles and understanding the unmet needs of organizations of all sizes led her to create Syssero.

Amber founded Syssero to help Workday clients get the most out of their solution. Through Amber’s leadership, Syssero is ensuring client success through transparency, comprehensive training, and honesty at the outset of every project. Despite Syssero’s rapid growth, Amber still communicates directly with every client to ensure the company’s mission is being lived up to across all projects. 

The aspect of her job she enjoys the most is tackling new challenges. Each new client has a fresh set of goals, and the diversity allows Amber and the entire Syssero team to utilize their full skill sets to solve problems.

When not creating Workday solutions for clients, Amber is passionate about education. She volunteers at schools across her area to teach the next generation that learning can be fun and empowering, whether you are 5 or 85.
