Chico State Center for Entrepreneurship Welcomes New Director

Colleen Robb

The Chico State Center for Entrepreneurship is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Colleen Robb to the position of director, effective summer 2018. Robb succeeds Peter Straus, who will continue to teach, but retire from the center after 10 years of extraordinary service serving as director.

Robb is also an assistant professor for the College of Business' Department of Management, where she serves as co-director for the Bridge Entrepreneurship Group and Blue Tech Valley Innovation Cluster Hub. She has over 10 years of experience working as a fundraising advisor to various start-ups in the athletic, cosmetic, manufacturing, nonprofit, retail and technology sectors. She has over 16 years of experience in the nonprofit sector in various roles for organizations such as MedShare International, the University of Cincinnati and Best Buddies International.

Robb was also the founding associate director for Florida International University’s (FIU) Pino Entrepreneurship Center, where she was responsible for developing both academic and outreach programs, general management of all programs related to the center and its five institutes, fundraising and teaching classes and workshops. She developed and managed FIU’s annual business plan competition, spearheaded a social entrepreneurship track and coached hundreds of entrepreneurs on their business plans and pitches for raising capital.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the Chico community in this new role. Chico State has so many amazing students with innovative ideas, and I’m excited to work more in-depth with them,” Robb said. “Our interdisciplinary efforts with engineering faculty and students are also starting to show tangible results. I’m excited to continue to build partnerships across campus in different disciplines. I think this is just the beginning of our interdisciplinary efforts.”

Robb was born and raised in Miami, Florida and is starting her fifth year at Chico State. She describes Chico as an extremely welcoming community and has enjoyed volunteering for nonprofits such as the Butte Humane Society and the Torres Community Shelter.

“Peter has done an amazing job and encouraged me so much, for which I can’t thank him enough,” she said. “Through his hard work, there are many opportunities available to us, and I want to be sure to also get community and alumni input so we can do the best job we can for our students.”

The Center for Entrepreneurship is dedicated to helping all Chico State students pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations through coaching, competitions, networking, and so much more. Visit its website at www.csuchico.edu/cfe or visit Glenn Hall 221 to get started turning your ideas into reality.
