Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the official Commencement Ceremony for the College of Agriculture?

Yes, the ceremony at Laxson Auditorium is the official Commencement Ceremony for the College of Agriculture. COA students will not be participating in the Stadium Commencement Ceremonies. The ceremony will conclude at 6 p.m.

When will I receive information about commencement?

The College of Agriculture Office (530-898-5844) will be in close contact with graduating seniors regarding information about commencement. You can also find updates on the Commencement website.

How long is the ceremony?

The ceremony is 1 1/2 hours long and will conclude at 6:00 p.m.

Do I need tickets for my family and friends to attend this ceremony?

Yes, each student will initially receive 5 tickets for Laxson and 2 for simulcast at campus locations. Tickets will be available online from April 4, 2017. See Ticket Information (link to that page) for more.

May I also attend the University Stadium ceremonies as a guest?

You may attend the University Stadium ceremonies if you have a ticket, which you can only get from another graduate.

How do I get my cap and gown?

You rent the gown (you get to keep the cap, tassel, and stole) at the Wildcat Store. Pre-order during the month of March and pick up beginning May 9th.

How do I return my gown?

You can return your gown at the Wildcat Store.

When should I arrive for the ceremony and where do I need to go?

Students need to arrive at 4 p.m. Check-in will be on Ayres Lawn outside of Laxson Auditorium. There will be signs directing students and their guests to the appropriate areas. More information will be emailed out to graduating seniors regarding check-in procedures.

How early should my guests arrive?

Doors will open at 4 p.m. Guests should be in their seats no later than 4:20 p.m.

Where can my guests park?

The closest parking structure is located at 3rd Street and Normal Street. There is also plenty of street parking available around Laxson Auditorium and an additional parking structure is at the corner of Third and Salem Streets.

Who will speak at commencement?

The official lineup has not been finalized. Please check back closer to the event.

Is there anything special after the ceremony for parents and students?

The College of Agriculture will host an informal reception immediately after the ceremony from 6–7 p.m. on Ayres Lawn. Cookies and lemonade will be served.

What other things should I know about the ceremony?

Grad T-Shirts: Grad T-shirts, featuring the names of the graduates who have applied for graduation prior, will be available for sale in the Wildcat Store.

Please note: Alcoholic beverages, balloons, coolers/ice chests, banners, signs, silly string, beach balls, and fireworks are not allowed in Laxson Auditorium. Intoxicated students and/or attendees will be removed from the ceremonies.

Smoking and vaping are not permitted anywhere on the Chico State campus.

What about photographs?

The Commencement Ceremony does not provide good close-up photo opportunities for your family and guests. Guests are asked to remain in their seats throughout the ceremony and will not be allowed in the aisles near the stage. Please be courteous of other guests and sensitive to their sight lines from their seats. Because of this, we have made arrangements with a professional firm, GradImages, to record the moment you are awarded your diploma cover.

  • Graduates can pre-register their own e-mail address and those of friends and family (up to six email addresses total) and GradImages will contact them as soon as their photos are available for online viewing and ordering.

How do I get a commencement program?

The commencement program, with the names of potential graduates and program details, will be distributed to candidates when they check-in on the afternoon of the ceremony. A day program will be given to all guests who attend the ceremony. Please note: The presence of your name in the program does not, in itself, testify to completion of your degree.

When will I get my diploma?

Following a favorable review and final evaluation of your records, your diploma will be mailed to the diploma address on file with the Evaluations Office approximately 12 weeks following the ceremony. If you need to update your address, please do so through your CSU, Chico portal account.

Will the Ceremonies be streamed live on the web?

Yes, the ceremonies will be streamed live. Go to www.csuchico.edu/stream to watch the ceremony.
