Transition to a Virtual Campus

The majority of staff have transitioned to work off-site. The University is not closed but on-campus staff has been reduced to the minimum required to provide limited essential services. All employees will be paid their normal rate of pay for normal hours assigned. Student employees should contact their supervisors for guidance. Human Resources Services Center has developed robust FAQs and guidelines for managers to address policies around this transition.

Telecommuting Tips and Resources

Remote Access

Review best practices for information security when using remote access.

VPN access is very important to ensure you are staying as secure as possible and you cannot access certain campus systems (e.g. PeopleSoft, Cascade, etc.) without a VPN connection.

All University-owned desktops and laptops that have recently been connected to the network should have Global Protect. Here is a video on how to check if you have Global Protect(opens in new window). If you do not have Global Protect, you will need to install it on your machine(opens in new window). View troubleshooting tips(opens in new window) and information for installing on OSX (Mac) devices.

Add your work files to Box before leaving campus and avoid saving directly to your personal device by saving to Box.

Accessing Your Voicemail

Zoom Video Tutorials

Zoom is Chico State’s video conferencing solution available to all students, faculty, and staff.

Skype for Business

Pre-installed for PC users, Skype for Business is a great way to communicate with your campus colleagues during this period. You can instant message, share screen, etc.  (Video Tutorial Coming Soon)

Internet Access

If you do not have off-campus access to the Internet, free resources are available.

Until further notice, all University-related travel (domestic and international) is suspended for faculty, staff, and students. All previously authorized exceptions for “essential” domestic travel are rescinded. At this time, only President Hutchinson has the authority to approve exceptions, and circumstances will be weighed carefully when considering exception requests.

Please ensure that all travel reservations/registrations are completely canceled in order to avoid unnecessary additional costs in relation to the cancellation policies of our partner vendors. Accounts Payable is ready and available to help faculty and staff navigate through cancelation considerations and necessary action items. Please contact us at

Paychecks & Reimbursements

Please email if you would like your paycheck or reimbursement check mailed to you, as we need your authorization and mailing address. If you already have direct deposit, no further action is required.

Paycheck distribution for state employees, employee reimbursements, and short-term loan checks for students has moved to the parking garage between the Wildcat Recreation Center and Student Services Center (at the corner of Ivy and Second Streets).

  • Pick-up dates and times: March 30, April 1, 8, 15 from 10–11 a.m.
  • Paystubs will not be available for pick-up during these times.

Drivers are asked to enter the parking structure, follow applicable signage, and remain in their vehicles while staff assist them. Be prepared to show a photo ID to pick up your check. If you would prefer to have your check mailed to you, please email in new window)(opens in new window). Please provide your name, address, and the last three digits of your Social Security number. This notice only applies to state employees.

We'll share details about future pick-up dates as they are determined.
