Announcing the Closure of the On-Campus COVID-19 Testing Site

Butte County Public Health will close the Optum Serve COVID-19 testing site in Whitney Hall at 12 p.m. on February 24, 2023.
Butte County Public Health will close the Optum Serve COVID-19 testing site in Whitney Hall at 12 p.m. on February 24, 2023. This aligns with many state-funded Optum Serve sites being closed at the expiration of California’s COVID-19 public health emergency declaration on February 28, 2023.

After the testing site closes, anyone in need of over-the-counter (OTC) COVID-19 tests has several options:
  • Students can get OTC COVID-19 test kits at the Pharmacy in the WellCat Health Center.
  • Employees can pick up test kits at the Environmental Health and Safety office (at the Corner of Normal and W. 2nd Streets) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
  • Visit your local pharmacy. OTC COVID-19 tests are covered by most insurance companies.
  • Visit the CDC’s COVID-19 Testing Locator website: (testinglocator.cdc.gov).
  • Visit www.covid.gov/tests to order up to four OTC tests per residential household, while supplies last, or call 1-800-232-0233.
  • Ask your healthcare provider about testing.
Additionally, the University plans to retire the COVID-19 hotline and replace it with a new online self-reporting system. Effective February 20, students and employees who test positive for COVID-19 will need to report their case via the online platform. We will provide additional information regarding the online platform before it goes live.

As we end this era, I’d like to publicly thank the employees who staffed the hotline over the past three years. It is only because of their professionalism that the hotline became a valuable resource for our community.

I’d also like to thank everyone who called and emailed the hotline. I understand these are not easy calls to make. Still, it is because of your respect for your fellow Chico State community members that the University has been able to weather this storm and continue in our service to students.

Sincerely,
Mike Thorpe
