Spring Classes to Continue as Planned

As of right now, a majority of courses will be conducted in person this spring. The first day of instruction is January 24.
Dear Students,

I hope you were able to enjoy time with family and friends over winter break. Now it is time to prepare for your return to Chico State to continue your studies. You've no doubt heard some universities across the country are shifting to temporary virtual instruction during the omicron wave, and are likely wondering what Chico State will do.

So, I write today to tell you, as of right now, a majority of courses will be conducted in person this spring. The first day of instruction is January 24. Double-check your class schedule to be sure which of your classes will be inperson, hybrid, or online. Should you have any questions, be sure to contact your advisor or instructor.Additionally, venues such as the Meriam Library, Wildcat Recreation Center, Bell Memorial Union, and on-campus dining services are scheduled to be open and available.
At Chico State, we are committed to prioritizing the health of our students, faculty, and staff, and the greater community. Our campus pandemic management team has been working very closely with Butte County Public Health to monitor the situation. Experts suggest omicron cases are expected to peak around the middle of this month. While the number of cases on campus will likely rise, we have demonstrated effective management of COVID-19. Therefore, we are confident we can hold classes and activities on campus this spring in ways that are safe and meaningful.
Please be on the lookout for communication next week from the pandemic management team about booster shot requirements, recommended COVID-19 testing, and additional guidelines.

As we continue to monitor the pandemic, we will share any updates to plans for spring 2022 classes. I deeply appreciate your cooperation and patience as we continue to navigate this challenging period together.

See you on campus!

Sincerely,
Gayle E. Hutchinson
