From: President Gayle Hutchinson

It’s hard to believe that an entire year has gone by since we pivoted from campus-based instruction to virtual online learning as an emergency response to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Yet, here we are standing strong and commemorating this unusual one-year anniversary. I know that you have been tested personally and professionally, but I hope you will take great pride as I do in your remarkable efforts to instruct and serve students as well as support campus operations during this extraordinary period in history. Frankly, your work has been awe-inspiring and demonstrates the caring nature, fortitude, and resilience that define Chico State.

As vaccinations are administered on a wider scale throughout the country and public health restrictions begin to lessen, there are reasons for optimism about our eventual return to campus. The academic plan for the fall 2021 semester includes nearly 50% of classes with an in-person component while remaining true to two important guiding principles: public health and safety, and student success. Additionally, there will be opportunities for students to participate in a wide range of on-campus activities and to utilize campus study spaces. We will be expanding on-campus staffing soon to support our operational needs. Come fall, the Chico State campus will be once again vibrant with activity.

I hope during spring break or another point this semester you find time for some much-needed rest and rejuvenation. Please remember to practice COVID-19 safety protocols by wearing face coverings in public and social distancing. COVID-19 continues to be a threat and we must stay vigilant as we work together to protect ourselves and each other.

Together, we are stronger in the face of adversity.
