Chico State is delighted to announce that we are closing in on being able to distribute an additional round of emergency financial relief to students via the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act approved by Congress in late December 2020. In early April 2021, the University will begin processing direct relief payments totaling over $10 million to students. The grants will be automatic and students do not need to apply.

Students do not need to submit a FAFSA application or demonstrate financial need for CRRSA Act funding. All students enrolled in a program leading to a degree or a teaching credential are eligible, including those enrolled in a completely online program. Students that are not eligible for federal funding will receive funds from CSU, Chico institutional sources. The exact amount that each eligible student will receive has not yet been determined.

Payments will be issued directly into student’s bank accounts (if on file in the Student Center under E-Refund) or mailed to a student’s local address. We recommend visiting the Student Center to review your local address information and/or sign up for E-Refund (direct deposit) if you have not already. Students should remain vigilant against phishing or scam emails.

We recognize that many students are struggling, and our hope is that this round of relief will assist with expenses related to COVID-19, including increased costs for housing, food, course materials, technology, health care, and childcare.

To date, three federal relief bills have been passed that provide an opportunity for Chico State students to receive federal aid: the CARES Act, the CRRSA Act, and the American Rescue Plan Act.

Through the CARES Act and other emergency funding measures, Chico State delivered more than $11 million to nearly 10,000 students in April and May 2020. Learn more about Chico State's distribution of CARES Act funding and emergency student grants at www.csuchico.edu/coronavirus/caresact.shtml

The American Rescue Plan Act, signed into law in March 2021, also includes aid for students. That funding has not yet arrived at Chico State, but we expect the student aid allocation to be twice that of the CRRSA Act and able to assist students with funding in the 2021–22 academic year. Details on eligibility and how this aid will be distributed will be forthcoming.

While no amount of money can compensate for the full burden experienced by so many of our students and families during this pandemic, we hope these relief payments assist our students in continuing their academic goals while at Chico State.
