COVID-19 Update for March 12

Reminder: Cancellation of In-Person Classes March 13–24
Chico Statehas canceled all in-person classes Friday, March 13, through Tuesday, March 24, which includes the previously scheduled spring break from March 16–20, to prepare prepare to move to online instruction if necessary in the future. Fully online courses are NOT canceled during this period. Classes will resume in-person on Wednesday, March 25. If the situation changes, we will notify you immediately.
Ongoing Services Available During Spring Break
To ensure the continuation of vital University operations and services—such as the library, health services, technology, and student housing and dining—campus will remain OPEN for regular business during the cancellation. Staff, MPP, and student employees should report to work as scheduled.
Student Housing
While we are planning for all contingencies, residence halls and most dining services will continue normal operations during spring break. As with every year, some halls are closed during spring break. Please visit the Housing website(opens in new window) for additional spring break information or call 530-898-6325.
Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry(opens in new window)
The pantry will remain open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. and by appointment by calling 530-898-4098.
Employee Resources
For employees concerned about paychecks during spring break or in the event campus is closed due to COVID-19, consider using the University's direct deposit program(opens in new window). Contact your Payroll Technician(opens in new window) if you have any questions about enrollment. Should the campus close, we will notify employees of where paychecks are available for pickup.
Campus Events
Following directives from the California Department of Public Health—and to ensure the continued health of students, faculty, staff, and the greater community—the University continues to assess all large events. This includes events with 100 or more guests on or off campus, indoor or outdoor that host any combination of students, staff, faculty, or public attendees.

Events occurring after April 12 will be reviewed in the coming weeks; we'll keep you updated. At this time, no decisions have been made in regard to Commencement in May.
Athletic Events
In accordance with the California Collegiate Athletic Association, which announced a conference-wide suspension Thursday afternoon, all University athletic events have been suspended until further notice. In addition to the cancellation of the intercollegiate athletics, all recreational sports, intramural, and sport club programs are also canceled for spring 2020.
Spring Break Travel Guidance
With the rapidly changing situation regarding COVID-19, we are echoing the advice of local and state public health experts in strongly recommending that individuals reconsider planned travel, especially non-essential, to international locations and to COVID-19 hotspots in the United States, including California(opens in new window).
