Peer Coaching Internship
Peer Coach internship positions at CSU, Chico WellCat Counseling Center are available starting Fall 2021. These are internship positions for the academic year.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Peer Coaches will be assigned to individual and group coaching determined by the needs of the WellCat Counseling Center (WCCC) and the interests of the Peer Coaches, in consultation with the Umatter Director and WCCC staff. Each semester, coaches will carry an individual case load of 7-10 individual students and have the opportunity to lead a group. Coaches receive training, supervision and are allotted time for completing case notes.
Peer Coaches provide mentoring to students on a variety of areas, including:
- Social pressures, adaptation, separation
- Academic concerns
- Accessing student resources including healthcare, housing, food
- Reinforcing self-esteem and self-advocacy skills
- Balancing academic and social demands
- Whole person health
Provide connection, emotional support, and coaching on holistic wellness through (virtual and in person social distancing) activities such as:
- Gardening
- Exercise
- Art/crafts
- Healthy cooking on a budget
(And more depending on Peer Coaches interests)
This position requires 15-20 hours of work a week.
