Mandated Reporter

The California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) is intended to protect children from abuse and neglect by imposing obligations and extending certain protections to certain groups of employees as "Mandated Reporters" of child abuse. (Cal. Penal Code §§11164-11174.3). A CSE employee whose duties require direct contact with and supervision of minors in the performance of the minors' duties in the workplace is a mandated reporter of child abuse or neglect.

All CSE employees that are identified as mandated reporters must:

  1. Complete the Acknowledgement of Mandated Reporter Status and Legal Duty To Report Child Abuse and Neglect (PDF) Completed forms are sent to CSEHR@csuchico.edu to be placed in the employee’s personnel file; AND
  2. Complete the CSULearn learning management system “Mandated Reporters of Child Abuse” training course. The course provides an overview of California Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting Act and provides training for all mandated child abuse reporters so they may carry out their responsibilities properly. 

Mandated reporters must if child abuse or neglect is reasonably suspected or if a minor shares information with a mandated reporter leading him/her to believe abuse or neglect has taken place, a report must be made.  The mandated reporter must immediately report by phone to:

A written report must be completed on California’s Suspected Child Abuse Report (PDF) form and sent to DESSChildAbuseReport@buttecounty.net or to the reporting agency within 36 hours.
