New Options

These guidelines provide an overview of the procedures and formats for proposals. If the guidelines are unclear, or if your program has some unique characteristics that require special input, please contact Curriculum Services, for undergraduate programs.

Overview

While campuses may have unique definitions, an option is defined for purposes of system review as an aggregate of courses within a degree major designed to give a student specialized knowledge, competence, or skill.

A new option may only be approved where adequate faculty, physical facilities, and library holdings sufficient to establish and maintain the option already exist or where it is reasonable to expect such support to become available.

Note: New options that are subject matter preparation programs should be made in consultation with the School of Education prior to submission. See EM 07-12.
