Students graduating in any spring, summer, or fall term this year, as well as those who graduated in the preceding fall or summer terms if they did not already participate in last year’s event.
  • How do I register to participate?
Complete the registration form on CatsConnect.
  • When is the deadline to register to participate?
The deadline to register is Friday, April 11, at 11:59 p.m.
  • I am graduating in the fall. How can I participate or receive a cord?
    • Students graduating in the fall can participate in this year’s celebration or wait until next year.
    • Consider participating in this event during the same spring semester you intend to walk at commencement, as you will need a cap and gown.
    • You can participate in this event only once per graduation cycle.
    • You must register and attend in person to receive a cord.
  • What do I receive as a graduate if I participate?
    • The API Graduation Celebration is an intimate event that allows you to celebrate your accomplishments with your family and friends. You are recognized individually on stage and allowed one minute to express your gratitude or give a celebratory shoutout. Keep it short, sweet, and sincere.
    • You receive a cord during the event. (Those who register but do not attend will not receive the cord. If you have an extenuating circumstance that prevents you from attending after registering, please contact us as soon as possible.)
    • There will be a reception with free food for graduates and guests.
  • How many guests can I invite?
There are no guest limits or tickets. However, to adequately provide food for all graduates and their guests, we usually plan for each graduate to have no more than 5-7 guests.
  • What is the attire/dress code for the event?
    • Graduates must wear their caps and gowns. However, you are encouraged to express your culture and heritage in other ways that feel celebratory, such as wearing a traditional outfit under your gown.
    • If you are graduating but do not plan to walk or rent regalia for Commencement, please contact us(opens in new window) early so we can discuss alternative options for obtaining regalia.
    • There is no dress code for guests but consider wearing something appropriate for a social event on campus, and keep in mind the time of year and weather. The event is indoor followed by an outdoor reception.
  • Why is there a mandatory rehearsal?
    • The mandatory rehearsal on May 2 at 5 p.m. is a run-through of the event. The API Graduation Committee will go over instructions and expectations for the event and have some final tasks for you to complete.
    • You’ll have an opportunity to ask any last-minute questions.
    • If you have an extenuating circumstance that prevents you from attending rehearsal, please contact us as soon as possible.
