Overview

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at California State University, Chico (CSUC) offers a graduate program leading to the Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MSECE), with focus on Electronics or Computer Engineering.

The MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering with an Electronics Option is designed primarily to serve those students who wish to expand their knowledge of traditional electrical engineering principles and to apply this knowledge to the design of high frequency circuits and systems. This knowledge can serve as preparation for a doctoral program or an intermediate level position in industry.

The MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a Computer Engineering Option is designed primarily to serve those students who wish to obtain advanced knowledge in the application of electrical engineering principles to the design of computer based systems. This knowledge can serve as preparation for a doctoral program or an intermediate level position in industry.

Mission

The MSECE Program mission is to provide the preparation to maintain currency and conduct research and development in the fields of electrical and/or computer engineering.

Goals & Objectives

  • Expand students’ knowledge and analytical skills in electrical and computer engineering so that they may apply such knowledge and skills to the analysis and design of advanced systems
  • Provide the preparation that allows graduates to maintain currency and conduct research in the fields of electrical and/or computer engineering
  • Ensure that graduates have the ability to communicate their thoughts effectively so that others can comprehend and build on their work
  • Upgrade technical knowledge for practicing engineers
  • Prepare students to succeed in a doctoral program in electrical and computer engineering or a related field

Student Learning Outcomes

The objective of the MSECE Engineering Program is to produce graduates able to:

  1. Expand students’ knowledge and analytical skills in electrical and computer engineering so that they may apply such knowledge and skills to the analysis and design of advanced system
  2. Provide the preparation that allows graduates to maintain currency and conduct research in the fields of electrical and/or computer engineering
  3. Ensure that graduates have the ability to communicate their thoughts effectively so that others can comprehend and build on their work
  4. Upgrade technical knowledge for practicing engineers
  5. Prepare students to succeed in a doctoral program in electrical and computer engineering or a related field

To achieve these objectives, students are expected to meet the following learning outcomes:

  1. An ability to identify and formulate requirements for advanced systems (supports achieving Objectives B,C, and D)
  2. An ability to analyze and prioritize requirements and constraints in order to determine the features that must be included in advanced systems (supports achieving Objectives B, D, C, and E)
  3. An ability to design advanced digital or analog systems that meet all requirements (supports achieving Objectives A, B, D, and E)
  4. An ability to implement designs for digital or analog systems and evaluate how well the designs meet the requirements (supports achieving Objectives A, B, D, and E)
  5. An ability to conduct literature research and assess its impact on electrical and/or computer engineering issues (supports achieving Objectives A, B, C, D, and E)
  6. An ability to apply current technologies and use modern tools to solve engineering problems (supports achieving Objectives A, B, D, and E)
