  • Graduated: 2010
  • Field: Management/Entrepreneurship

Aly Gill(opens in new window), who graduated in 2010 with a BA in Economics and a concentration in International, is the Co-Founder of Something Designed(opens in new window) in Los Angeles, California. After graduation, Aly spent several years working in the music industry, first at INgrooves(opens in new window) in San Francisco and then at Universal Music Group(opens in new window) in New York City. Her strategic marketing concentration while at Universal Music Group lead to her to a Director of Entertainment Marketing position at PMK•BNC(opens in new window) in Los Angeles, a marketing and communications agency that works with major brands such as Samsung, Activision, T-Mobile, Audi and more. In that role, Aly managed experiential, influencer and digital advertising campaigns for Samsung.

Throughout her various roles in entertainment, Aly discovered a love of design and communication, and perfected the art of building presentations. This led her to co-found Something Designed in 2018, a strategic presentation design company with her partner and former PMK*BNC colleague, Jaime Brookstein. Something Designed specializes in creating presentations that tell stories and win business. Unlike traditional designers, they offer all elements that go into a proposal: ideation, creative, copywriting, and design. Mostly Something Designed works with agencies and production companies, supporting them with pitching and winning new business, and with start-ups who are looking to build their brand identity and procure funding.

"Whether you use your degree directly or not, majoring in Economics is extremely beneficial in the working world because it teaches you how to think strategically, Aly stated in a recent email.  “The analysis and problem-solving skills I learned from my Econ professors at Chico State have been tremendously useful in every job I've had over the last 10 years. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this major anyone."  (Last Updated 1/13/19)
