Amber R. Williams, who graduated with a BA in Economics in 2019, is analytics manager at Ascend Marketing in Grapevine, Texas. Amber attended Butte College from 2004 - 2006 while working 20 to 30 hours per week to support herself. As president of the Political Science Club at Butte College, Amber helped raise money to fund a workshop to teach students and faculty about sustainable practices.
Amber left Butte College to serve 8 years in the U.S. Marine Corps as “an experienced public affairs and marketing specialist who is responsible for the management of materials, resources and time of ten recruiting offices in parts of West Virginia, Virginia and Maryland,” according to her LInkeIn page. In the Marines Amber helped produce radio and television broadcasts for the Armed Forces Network. She transferred her credits from Butte and attended evening classes at Frederick Community College where she earned her Associate’s Degree in General Studies in 2014.
Amber left the Marines in 2015 and enrolled at Chico State in 2016 where she took 15 units per semester. Part of her academic work included an interdisciplinary research internship with faculty in Economics and Chemistry Departments at Chico State to write a cost-benefit analysis of biodiesel production on a small scale. Her analysis included the environmental costs.
In 2017 during her second year at Chico State Amber worked as a contractor for Work Truck Solutions where she was part of a team in charge of social media marketing.
In 2017 Amber also volunteered as a reading tutor with the Butte Literacy Council where she helped K thru 12 students struggling to read. In 2018 Amber found time to volunteer as an analytics and marketing consultant with MicroMentor, a firm that connects volunteers like Amber with small businesses owners around the world in an effort to help them expand their businesses. She also found time to serve as treasurer of the Economics Club.
