Danny Greenwood(opens in new window), who graduated in 2012 with a BA in Economics and an option in Environmental Economics, is a Geographic Information Systems Specialist (GISS) for Deer Creek GIS in Chico.  While at Chico State Danny interned at the Center for Economic Development(opens in new window).

After graduation Danny enrolled in Penn State University where he earned a Certificate in Geographic Information Science and Cartography(opens in new window) in 2014.  While completing his degree online Danny also worked as a substitute teacher for the Yuba County Unified School District before accepting a job with Deer Creek, a firm that provides GIS services state wide.

“In the Summer Deer creek takes trailers to major wildfire events around the country, mainly the state, and provides mapping needs for operations,” Danny explained in a recent email.  “I provide the IT support for the trailer as well as create and assist with making maps. This year I have moved up to a supervisor role in the company.”

“My economic background has helped me adapt to a high paced professional environment. My time spent in the CED is what helped me become interested in GIS, but being an economics major is what helped me start as an Intern at the CED.”
