Sam Dreyfuss , who graduated in 2010 with a BA in Economics and a BS in Business Administration, is a fixed income portfolio manager with BlackRock(opens in new window) in San Francisco, California. During the summer of 2007 Sam was a research analyst intern with Merrill Lynch(opens in new window) where he “synthesized financial research pertaining to international economic events and the BlackStone(opens in new window)IPO,” according to his Sam's LinkedIn page.
Sam completed coursework in international economics, econometrics, business strategy and the psychology of music at the University of Oxford(opens in new window) in 2008-2009. During the summer of 2009 Sam was a real estate research intern with AFI and Associates Portfolio Real Estate(opens in new window) in San Francisco. For his internship Sam “ Prepared rental comparison spreadsheets for pricing analysis and provided clerical/ administrative support, and created excel models to streamline business processes for 3 financial advisors,” according to his LinkedIn page. Sam also found time to participate in the Chico State Economics Club, the Finance Club and the Mountain Biking Club.
After graduation Sam took a client services position with YBR Financial Advisors, a small wealth management firm specializing in high net worth individuals located within San Francisco. Sam worked in wealth management for a year before taking a fixed income analyst job offer with PFM Asset Management(opens in new window), a firm specializing in fixed income portfolio management for government and institutional clients. His jobs included structuring fixed income portfolios, explaining trading strategies, credit analysis, investment performance analysis, cash flow modeling, and economic research and reporting.
After two years with PFM Asset Management Sam moved to BlackRock as an analyst within the securities lending division. He works alongside fixed income traders on the U.S. Treasuries and the federal agencies desk and is responsible for monitoring loan collateral exposure levels within the U.S. markets. He developed and engineered the reporting and analytics platform for BlackRock’s securities lending division. Sam was recently promoted to portfolio manager at BlackRock.
