Zac FlemingZac Fleming

Zac Fleming, who graduated with a BA in Economics in 2010, is an English teacher in Barranquilla, Columbia. Zac began working for MINDBODY, a company that produces software to help physical fitness firms manage their businesses, as a sales associate in San Luis Obispo, California at the end of 2015. He was promoted to sales development rep about half a year later. In 2017 Zac joined Strackaline LLC in Encinitas, California as operations manager for the firm that produces software for golfers.  After a few months Zac moved to Columbia where he is teaching English. Jessica Koppel GalbreathJessica Koppel Galbreath

Jessica Koppel Galbreath, who graduated with honors in economics major in 2007, is an early childhood teacher in Illinois. After graduation she began working for U.S. Trust Bank of America Private Wealth Management as a Client Sales and Service Officer in Chicago. In this position she assisted the U.S. Trust client team in servicing clients and in building businesses.

In an email while working at U.S. Trust Jessica said, "My dream is to teach one day. I want to inspire kids and help them overcome challenges. I know it's a drastic change from banking to teaching. I have been thinking about this for many years and it isn't easy changing careers. I have my paraprofessional certificate which would allow me the chance to be a TA."

After almost 7 years with U.S. Trust, Jessica began her teaching career at Bright Horizons where she decided to enroll in graduate school so that she could change her career to teaching.

Jessica realized her dream in 2015 when she graduated with a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) at National Louis University and found a job teaching in Illinois.

Ashleigh HoytAshleigh Hoyt

Ashleigh Hoyt, who graduated with a BA in Economics and the Smale Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in 2005, teaches math and social studies at New Vista School in Laguna Hills, California. In 2010 she earned her master’s degree in secondary education and teaching at Pepperdine University and she began teaching social studies at Ukiah Unified School District (UUSD) in Ukiah, California. 

In 2015 Ashleigh moved from UUSD to the Konocti Unified School District in Lower Lake, California, where she taught social studies. The following year Ashleigh accepted a job as office manager for Alta Equities in Tustin, California, where she worked for a year before returning to teaching at New Vista School.  (Last Updated 11/30/18)

Rosales Louis

Rosales Louis, who graduated with a BA in Economics in 1986, is a teacher at Centinela Valley Adult School, a part of the Centinela Valley Union High School District (CVUHSD) in Lawndale, California.  After graduation Rosales began his career as a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District where he taught until 2001 when he moved on to Centinela Valley Adult School where he currently works.  (Last Updated 9/21/18)

Christopher Rodriguez, who completed his BA in Economics in 2008, is an English tutor at The Language Company in Santiago, Chile.  During his sophomore year at Chico State he studied international business and economics at Brighton University in Great Britain.  Christopher interned with the California Center for International Trade and Development where he created reports for domestic businesses interested in selling their products in other countries during his junior year and he wrote grants for St. John’s Catholic School during his senior year. 

Christopher joined Peace Corps after he graduated from Chico State and he spent almost two and one-half years in Suriname promoting business development and health initiatives.  After leaving Peace Corps Christopher worked for 3 years as a teacher for the English Program in Korea (EPIK) and TaLK (Teach and Learn in Korea).  In March of 2015 he moved to Santiago, Chile, where he now works for The Language Company.

Mike Tate

Mike Tate, who graduated in 1997 with a BA in Economics, is a physical education teacher in Willows Intermediate School.  After graduating from Chico State he entered the teaching credential program at Chapman University.  In 1998 Mike accepted a position teaching sixth grade at Willows Intermediate School. 

After teaching sixth grade for 15 years, Mike earned his physical education credential from National University and went back to Willows Intermediate School to teach physical education.  Mike is the only teacher in the district to hold an economics degree.  “I use economics on occasion while teaching sixth grade history,” he stated in a recent email.”  (Last Updated 10/13/16)
