Electrical and Computer Engineering

General Admission Requirements

In order to be admitted to the graduate program in Electrical and Computer Engineering at CSU Chico, you must  apply through the Graduate School(opens in new window). See the  Graduate Admissions(opens in new window) for more details.

In general, the normal standards for admission to our program are as follows:

  • Students with a total GRE score over 300 will be given high priority in the admission process
  • A 2.5 GPA (on the scale A=4.0) or better at the undergraduate level. A GPA of 3.0 or better in the last 30 semester units of undergraduate work and a GPA of 2.75 on the last 60 semester units of undergraduate work.
  • Two letters of recommendation accompanying a signed access waiver (PDF) form.
  • Statement of purpose.

CSU Chico Graduates

Graduates from CSU Chico and other CSU schools who have a GPA over 3.0 are not required to submit GRE scores or letters of recommendation unless asked to do so by the Graduate Coordinator.

Electronics Engineering Option Undergraduate Preparation

A baccalaureate degree in electrical or computer engineering or a related field. Satisfactory completion of courses in the following areas:

  • C/C++ and assembly language programming
  • Signals and transforms
  • Computer interface circuits
  • Digital systems design
  • Advanced analog electronics
  • Digital Signal Processing or Communications
  • Control systems

Computer Engineering Option Undergraduate Preparation

A baccalaureate degree in computer or electrical engineering or a related field. Satisfactory completion of courses in the following areas:

  • C/C++ and assembly language programming
  • Data structures and algorithms
  • Operating systems or real-time systems
  • Signals and transforms
  • Digital systems and state machine design
  • Analog electronics
  • Microprocessor system design
  • Computer interface circuits
