Storm Water Management Program

Keep our rivers and creeks clean! A large part of our Campus beauty is due to Big Chico Creek running through the middle of the Campus.  We are dedicated to educating the Campus Community about protecting the waters of Butte Creek and the Sacramento River.

Storm drains are for rain only. All outdoor water draining from Campus should be assumed to flow to the creek. Therefore, only rainwater should be allowed to flow into the storm drains. Trash, soapy water, oil, antifreeze, and similar items and chemicals should never be allowed to flow to the drains.

How to report illicit discharge. Storm drain outlets are distributed up and down Big Chico Creek. Both the City of Chico and the University have individual outfalls and some outfalls that collect storm water from both the City and the University. To report "Illicit Discharge" or if you notice a storm water outfall flowing during the dry season, please call the Department of Environmental Health and Safety at 898-5126 or University Police at 898-5555 after hours.
