Student Job Opportunities
The success of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is largely due to the students that work in our office. EOP values its student employees and provides opportunities for professional growth. Many of our past student employees have moved on to very exciting careers or have returned to work for EOP as professionals because of the experience gained working for the program. Integral student assistant positions in our office include the paraprofessional advisor and intern advisor. These positions have direct contact with EOP students on a regular basis.
EOP typically hires student employees during the spring semester to work the following academic year. All positions will be posted in Handshake. Below is a brief description of the student positions that we typically employ within the office.
Paraprofessional Advisor: Works with students participating in the EOP First-Year Experience program. Duties include working with a core group of students; advising on GE requirements, course scheduling, and disseminating information and basic knowledge of university policy and procedures; maintaining accurate records of student contact and academic progress; planning programs; and completing end-of-semester student file summaries. The Paraprofessional Advisor must possess the ability to work with minimal supervision and pay close attention to detail. Additionally, in cooperation with a staff member, paraprofessionals may develop and facilitate workshops.
Front Desk Receptionist: Includes possessing above average communication skills; having a basic knowledge of university policies and procedures; addressing questions and concerns about academic and administrative requirements and procedures; opening and closing the office; screening callers and visitors at the front desk; and scheduling appointments, running errands, typing, filing, and distributing mail.
Publications and Public Events Intern: The Publications and Public Events Intern position would assist with direct communication to Educational Opportunity Program participants through email, social media, and web pages, and also assist with the planning of large group events. The intern would report directly to the publications and public events specialist. This student would gain experience planning events and working in a group and would be an important member of the team.
