Norma Jones was hired in 1951 by Hal Bramsen, Business Manager, to serve as “Faculty Secretary.” She wore many hats during her 23 years at Chico State and 5 years at San Francisco State. She worked as an Administrative Assistant in various offices for upper-level administrators including Secretary to President Glenn Dumke at SF State who later became Chancellor of the new statewide system. Jones was very efficient, helpful, and professional and served Chico State with loyal and dedicated service. She was highly respected by both faculty and staff and performed like an ambassador for the University and its faculty, staff, and students.

In past years Jones was a member of the Chico Venture Club (junior Soroptimist Club) and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society; participated in the Work Training Center’s Annual Thanksgiving Dinner; and coordinated the University retired staff luncheons for two years in the mid-90’s.

Currently Jones is an active member of PEO (a philanthropic educational organization) that raises funds for scholarships for women. She is also a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Retired Public Employees Association (RPEA), and Emeritus Retired Faculty and Staff Association (ERFSA) where she serves as secretary and has assisted with the Hall of Honor luncheons.
