Plant Operations
1960–1983
Deceased: 2014

Dick Sorenson was Technician and Supervisor of the Electrical Division of Plant Operations from 1960–1983.  He had many accomplishments and distinguished service during his 24 years at the University. He was recognized for his outstanding service and contributions when selected by Staff Council as the “Outstanding Employee of the Year” in 1975–76. He was active in the California State Employees Association (CSEA) and served as Chair of Staff Council. Sorenson was also active in the Chico State retired staff organization after retirement in 1983.

Sorenson was a “behind the scenes” man who spent 24 years keeping the lights on at football games and known as the “one-man genius” who made the scoreboard light up at the right time. He was a life-long sports fan who volunteered as timekeeper at Wildcat home basketball games and didn't miss a game for over 30 years. He was a genuine “above and beyond” man needed for any successful athletic program. Sorenson was inducted into the Chico State “Sports Hall of Fame” as an honorary member in 1988.

Sorenson was active in the community and a member of Trinity Methodist Church where he served on many committees over the years. Following retirement he was an active member of Sons in Retirement (SIR) and an avid golfer. Sorenson passed away on February 4, 2014 at the age of 91.
