Fidelis Hampton

Staff

Office of the President
Payroll Office
1947–1974
Deceased: 2000

As secretary to two presidents in her 28 years of service, Fidelis Hampton played a key role in administrative functions at Chico State College and was considered the “face of the University” by many of her colleagues.

Hampton served as secretary to President Aymer J. Hamilton from 1947 until his retirement in 1950. With the appointment of President Glenn Kendall in 1950, she served in the same capacity until his retirement in 1966.

From 1966 until her retirement in 1974, she served as payroll officer for Chico State College. Hampton’s last year on campus was the year the school became part of the California State University.

Hampton was active in the Chico chapter of the National Secretaries Association and served as charter president in 1958, making many contributions to the professional organization. She is remembered for always being available to help when needed; and for her love of her husband Johnny and her daughter Joy, and spending time with them on their farm in Durham.

Hampton, who passed away in 2000, is being honored posthumously for her role as a mentor to others in the president’s office and for serving as an ambassador for Chico State College with her professionalism, grace, and warmth.
