Statement on Investments
The University Foundation Board of Governors and Finance & Investment Committee are steadfast in their fiduciary duty to oversee the university’s endowment with the highest standards of care, prudence, and diligence. This commitment guides all decisions regarding our investment strategies, ensuring they align with the long-term financial health and mission of the university to make education possible and help transform students’ lives.
Consistent with our objective of adhering to best fiduciary practices, our investments are implemented through diversified portfolios consisting primarily of mutual funds, exchange traded funds (ETFs) and limited partnerships. These vehicles are chosen not only for their financial viability but also for their ability to provide exposure to an extensive array of securities, thus diversifying our investment risks and exposures along with the consideration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors.
The investments in the University’s endowment do not include any direct investment in defense companies or any securities domiciled in any regions experiencing conflict across the globe. This approach reflects our prudent management practices and the relatively modest size of our endowment, as well as the institution’s values. Instead, our endowment is invested in mutual funds, ETFs and limited partnerships managed by external investment professionals, encompassing a wide range of securities managed by various investment firms and passive index strategy providers. The composition of these funds is subject to change by these investment managers at any time, which is a standard practice in fund management, further mitigating our direct influence over specific securities within these funds.
California State University, Chico is committed to maintaining transparency and fostering open communication with all stakeholders about our investment policies. By unwaveringly focusing on our fiduciary responsibilities, we continue to prioritize the long-term financial stability and integrity of the university, ensuring that our endowment is managed in a manner that steadfastly supports the university's mission now and in the future.
