• Why Go Greek?
  Sisterhood

  Embarking upon a new path in life often feels lonely and confusing, leaving you wondering where you fit. However, joining a sorority truly personalizes and enriches the overall collegiate experience. Joining a sorority is the beginning of a new experience with new friends and the process of discovering a new home-away-from-home. Sorority members attend a variety of activities such as chapter retreats, meetings, study programs, formal dinners and service projects, fostering a closer relationship with the women who become sisters for a lifetime. Endless opportunities exist for making new friends and forming bonds that will truly last long after graduation when joining a sorority.

  Academics

  At Chico State, each sorority expects academic excellence and improved scholastic achievement from each of its members. Each group has a a specific grade point average requirement that members must maintain to remain active. Chapters also offer academic assistance for members, providing study areas and peer tutoring. Sorority chapters understand that their members are students first, providing recognition to those who excel and also improve their academic standing.

  Philanthropy

  One of the many advantages of sorority membership is the time spent helping others. The ability to give of oneself is one of the most important qualities developed while participating in a sorority. All of our sororities hold philanthropic events throughout the academic year, donating to both national and local charities.

  Leadership

  Sororities provide a solid foundation for leadership development, preparing women for the demands and responsibilities that they will face after graduation. Membership in a sorority is an extraordinary means of discovering and refining your leadership abilities. Each sorority uses a committee structure to promote member involvement in all operational aspects of the organization. In addition, sorority chapters provide educational programming and participate in each of their own regional or national leadership conferences. Becoming involved in a leadership role supports the development of self-confidence, effective communication skills, and ultimately individual growth.

  Social

  Each sorority hosts a variety of social activities. These may include date parties, formals, parents' weekends, retreats, Greek Week, mixers, and many other activities to socialize with sisters and meet other Greek members on campus. 

  Intramurals

  Recreation Sports department offers students opportunities to participate in intramural sports. Sororities often will form teams and collaborate with other Greek organizations to participate in sports such as flag football, softball, soccer, basketball and even dodge ball.

• Recruitment Counselor Application

  A Recruitment Counselor is an impartial representative of the College Panhellenic Association who understands and implements the purposes and goals of the College Panhellenic Association in recruitment.  These representatives model the way for Potential New Members (PNMs). They serve as a confidant and sounding board as PNMs search for organizations that meet their needs and match their values.

  Application deadline: September 18th

  REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a member in an NPC chapter
  • Must be in good standing with their chapter
  • Have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Enrolled full-time at Chico State
  • Attend all RC Trainings
    • Sunday, October 22nd
    • Sunday, December 3rd
    • January RC Trainings TBA
  • Attend all Formal Recruitment (January 16th-21st)
  • Disaffiliate from chapter starting January 1st, 2024

  CHARACTERISTICS:

  DUTIES:

  • Attend all recruitment counselor training sessions and other related commitments.
  • Explain all procedures and answer questions concerning the logistics of recruitment.
  • Plan and facilitate meetings with assigned PNMs in appropriate and convenient locations (this includes having agendas, topics and questions and answers prepared for those meetings).
  • Promote and maintain interest in the recruitment process and in membership in a sorority.
  • Show support for all PNMs through person-to-person contact.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding conversations with PNMs.
  • Monitor PNM progression through the recruitment process and give appropriate attention to issues.
  • Be available and flexible during recruitment for all PNMs to contact and address their concerns as needed in one-on-one situations.
  • Maintain neutrality in difficult situations or conflicts requiring objective guidance to PNMs.
  • Promote a positive attitude in the Panhellenic community through conversation and personal behavior.
  • Consult Panhellenic officers and FSA advisor in situations that require outside and more experienced guidance.
  • Understand the process for filing a recruitment infraction and commit to doing so in necessary situations only.
  • Model the Panhellenic Creed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and applicable to the campus recruitment style.

  SELECTION:

  The interview process will be hosted by the Vice President of Programming, Panhellenic Executive Board Officers, the Panhellenic Paraprofessional, and the Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Advisor. All applicants will participate in an interview. You will receive more information about the interview after filling out the application.

• Recruitment

  Students who are interested in joining, “rushing” a fraternity or sorority are also known as, Potential New Members (PNMs). Prior to rushing any recognized social fraternity or sorority, PNMs MUST meet the following requirements*: 

  • Be currently matriculated and enrolled at Chico State** 

  • Have completed a minimum of 12 college credit units** 

  • Be in good academic standing 

  • Have a minimum 2.5 Chico State Cumulative GPA 

  • Attend Go Greek 101 Workshop 

   

  **First-time, first-year students are ineligible to participate in “rush” or go through recruitment in their first semester at Chico State. (Read below for further information) 

  **First-year transfer students are eligible to “rush” or go through recruitment during their first semester. 

  *Each Council and/or fraternity/sorority have additional requirements and we recommend to contact and connect with each individual organization for further recruitment requirements. 

  First-time, first-year students, more commonly known as “freshman” are NOT eligible to “rush” or go through recruitment their first semester for many reasons.   

  Academics:  

  • We want to ensure that first-year students get acclimated to college level academic courses prior to adding further social commitments.  

  Time-Management: 

  • Joining a social fraternity/sorority can be time-consuming, working on your time management skills is crucial to be successful in your academics and social life. 

  Finances:  

  • Every fraternity/sorority has a cost that is associated with their specific recruitment requirement and membership educational process, being financially prepared to join a social fraternity/sorority is a good rule of thumb. 

  • The office of FSA is NOT held responsible for any financial discrepancies associated with new member processes, recruitment process, national dues, chapter dues, etc.  

  • Be mindful and ask financial questions to each organization prior to making your decision.
