  Brotherhood/Sisterhood

  Embarking upon a new path in life often feels lonely and confusing, leaving you wondering where you fit. However, joining a fraternity/sorority truly personalizes and enriches the overall collegiate experience. Joining a fraternity/sorority is the beginning of a new experience with new friends and the process of discovering a new home-away-from-home. Fraternity/Sorority members attend a variety of activities such as chapter retreats, meetings, study programs, formal dinners and service projects, fostering a closer relationship with the men/women who become brothers/sisters for a lifetime. Endless opportunities exist for making new friends and forming bonds that will truly last long after graduation when joining a fraternity/sorority.

  Academics

  At Chico State, each fraternity/sorority expects academic excellence and improved scholastic achievement from each of its members. Each group has a a specific grade point average requirement that members must maintain to remain active. Chapters also offer academic assistance for members, providing study areas and peer tutoring. Fraternity/Sorority chapters understand that their members are students first, providing recognition to those who excel and also improve their academic standing.

  Philanthropy

  One of the many advantages of fraternity/sorority membership is the time spent helping others. The ability to give of oneself is one of the most important qualities developed while participating in a fraternity/sorority. All of our fraternities hold philanthropic events throughout the academic year, donating to both national and local charities.

  Leadership

  Fraternities/Sororities provide a solid foundation for leadership development, preparing men/women for the demands and responsibilities that they will face after graduation. Membership in a fraternity/sorority is an extraordinary means of discovering and refining your leadership abilities. Each fraternity/sorority uses a committee structure to promote member involvement in all operational aspects of the organization. In addition, fraternity/sorority chapters provide educational programming and participate in each of their own regional or national leadership conferences. Becoming involved in a leadership role supports the development of self-confidence, effective communication skills, and ultimately individual growth.

  Social

  Each fraternity/sorority hosts a variety of social activities. These may include date parties, formals, parents' weekends, retreats, Greek Week, mixers, and many other activities to socialize with brothers/sisters and meet other Greek members on campus. 

  Multiculturalism

  Unlike traditional fraternities/sororities, MGC organizations were founded based on the principle of multiculturalism, creating a space, community, and brotherhood/sisterhood that stems for mutual understanding of struggles faced as communities of color. 

• Recruitment Information

  Students who are interested in joining a fraternity or sorority are also known as, Potential New Members (PNMs). Prior to participating in recruitment for any recognized social fraternity or sorority, PNMs MUST meet the following requirements*: 

  • Be currently matriculated and enrolled at Chico State** 

  • Have completed a minimum of 12 college credit units** 

  • Be in good academic standing 

  • Have a minimum 2.5 Chico State Cumulative GPA 

  • Attend Potential New Member Orientation 

   

  **First-year transfer students are eligible to participate in recruitment during their first semesterr. 

  *Each Council and/or fraternity/sorority have additional requirements and we recommend to contact and connect with each individual organization for further recruitment requirements. 

  *First-time, first-year students, more commonly known as “freshman” are eligible to participate recruitment their first semester.  

  • Specific Requirements can be referred per EM 25-010 (PDF) (PDF) 
  • MUST also meet:
    • 18 y/o at time of Recruitment Week

  Academics:  

  • We want to ensure that first-year students get acclimated to college level academic courses prior to adding further social commitments.  

  Time-Management: 

  • Joining a social fraternity/sorority can be time-consuming, working on your time management skills is crucial to be successful in your academics and social life. 

  Finances:  

  • Every fraternity/sorority has a cost that is associated with their specific recruitment requirement and membership educational process, being financially prepared to join a social fraternity/sorority is a good rule of thumb. 

  • Fraternity & Sorority Life is NOT responsible for any financial discrepancies associated with new member processes, recruitment process, national dues, chapter dues, etc.  

  • Be mindful and ask financial questions to each organization prior to making your decision.

Delta Xi Phi

Delta Xi Phi Multicultural Sorority Inc. is a multicultural sorority accepting all women from all cultural backgrounds.

Lambda Theta Alpha

Lambda Theta Alpha Sorority Inc. is a Latina focused sorority, but open to all women interested in joining the organization.

Lambda Theta Nu

Lambda Theta Nu Sorority Inc. is a Latina focused sorority, but open to all women who are interested in joining the organization.

Sigma Omega Phi

Sigma Omega Phi is a multicultural sorority that accepts all women from different cultural backgrounds interested in joining their organization.

Upsilon Kappa Delta

Upsilon Kappa Delta Multicultural Sorority Inc. is a multicultural sororirty that accepts all women from different cultural backgrounds interested in joining their organization.

Zeta Sigma Chi

Zeta Sigma Chi Multicultural Sorority Inc. is a multicultural sororirty that accepts all women from different cultural backgrounds interested in joining their organization.

Fraternities

Alpha Psi Lambda

Alpha Psi Lambda National Inc, is the first and largest social Co-Ed Fraternity welcoming ALL Genders interested in joining the organization.

Gamma Zeta Alpha

Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity Inc. is a Latino focused fraternity, but open to all men interested in joining the organizaiton.

Epsilon Sigma Rho

Epsilon Sigma Rho Multicultural Fraternity Inc, is open to all men from different cultural backgrounds interested in joining their organization.

Eta Mu Theta

Eta Mu Theta Hmong Multicultural Fraternity, is focused on supporting the Hmong community and is open to all men from different cultures interested in joining their organization.

Kappa Alpha Psi

Kappa Alpha Psi (Nupes) are part of the historically Black Greek-lettered social fraternities. They aim to uplift and support young black men of color.

Lambda Theta Phi

Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity Inc, is focused on supporting Latino men, but open to all men interested in joining their organization. 

Nu Alpha Kappa

Nu Alpha Kappa is a Latino based fraternity, but open to all men interested in joining their organization. 

Phi Beta Sigma

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc, is one of 9 Black Greek Lettered organization focused on Black Men excellence.
