A Rolling Good Time

January 15 - May 16, 2026
Motion Mania is an interactive hands-on exhibit that encourages visitors to make discoveries about force, motion, energy, friction and stability, while at the same time having a rolling good time. Motion Mania encourages visitors of all ages to ask questions, test out their own theories and designs, observe results and then try something else – all important skills that are part of scientific investigation – the scientific process. Part of the fun is in making connections to personal experiences and to real life phenomena.
So come prepared to Build Your Own Roller Coaster and test Energy Tracks.
“Build Your Own Roller Coaster” is about having fun by creating different-shaped pathways and then watching how the balls move along them.
"Energy Tracks” is about looking more closely at different variables that affect motion and testing them out one by one, leading to greater understanding of the physics of motion.
Have you ever wondered, why some people love roller coasters so much? Is it the speed? Is it the inherent danger? Is it the fascination with the physics? Motion Mania unlocks these answers through the build, design, and test process.
Motion Mania was developed by the Ontario Science Centre and locally sponsored by the Children's Science Education Endowment Fund, the McAmis Family Exhibit Endowment, and William Hassenzahl.
