Tectonics and Sedimentation Lab

Tuscan Cliff Model

The Tectonics and Sedimentation Lab in PHSC 116 houses two workstations used for seismic-related software awarded by Landmark Graphics Corporation (e.g. OpenWorks, SeisWorks, GeoProbe). We have obtained multiple 3-D seismic datasets from the Gulf of Mexico (courtesy of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation) and Kazakhstan (courtesy of Max Petroleum).
Other software capabilities include photogrammetry using drone aerial photography (Agisoft), Petrel (from Schlumberger) and Petra (from IHS). All of these are used for both teaching exercises and research purposes. The lab also includes a petrographic microscope with full digital photographic capabilities and a mechanized stage for point counting.
