How to Give

There are many ways you can support Chico State's students and programs. Learn how you can donate, from simple online giving to gifts of stock.

There are many ways to give to Chico State. Some gifts make an immediate impact today, while others act as an investment in the future. Our diverse giving opportunities offer immediate tax benefits or allow you to spread your giving over time. All have the power to help Chico State students do what they love and dare to do it in their own way.

The easiest and quickest way to contribute is to make a gift online with a credit or debit card.

  • Give by Mail or Phone

To send a gift by mail, please make your check payable to the University Foundation and put the designation or program name in the memo line (if known).

    Mailing Address
    Gift Processing – 0999
    California State University, Chico
    400 W. 1st St
    Chico, CA 95928

You may also make a credit card gift by phone by calling Gift Services at 530-898-4488 during regular business hours.

  • Recurring Donation

Setting up a recurring monthly or yearly credit card donation helps provide sustaining support for the program of your choice and ensures they can count on you. This level of regular support allows programs to plan ahead and truly maximize your impact on student success.

Simply select, “I would like to make this a recurring gift” in Step 3 of the online giving form and select your frequency (e.g. monthly, quarterly, or yearly).

If you would like to make changes to an existing recurring gift, contact Gift Services at 530-898-4488 or giftservices@csuchico.edu.

  • Payroll Deductions for Chico State Employees

Employees of Chico State or the Chico State Enterprises can make a monthly pre-tax payroll deduction gift. Simply complete the payroll deduction form.

Please note: Your payroll deduction gift will take the State Controller’s Office approximately two pay periods (60 days) to process. Payroll deductions will be labeled as “Assoc Dues” on your paycheck.

  • Planned Giving Opportunities

With a planned gift, you can take care of yourself and take care of Chico State. Planned giving involves providing for a future gift to Chico State through your financial and estate plans. The university welcomes gifts made through different planned giving arrangements.

Visit our planned giving website or contact Director of Planned Giving Hope Shapiro at heshapiro@csuchico.edu or 530-898-6974.

  • Leadership Giving

Leadership donors elevate our academic success and advance our regional impact by supporting a multitude of areas. Donors who give a sum total of $1,500 or more to any Chico State program or initiative within the fiscal year are automatically honored as Tower Society members, gaining access to special benefits.

Contact a director of development to discuss opportunities and learn more about our leadership giving societies.

  • Make an IRA Direct Disbursement

If you are over the age of 70 ½ and have an Individual Retirement Account (IRA), then a gift from your account may provide the most significant tax savings of any charitable contribution. While you are eligible to make this gift starting at 70 ½, when you turn 73 you must take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA, and a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) in the form of a gift to Chico State can qualify as part of the required minimum.

Direct your fund manager to make the disbursement payable to the University Foundation (Tax ID: 95-1230865) and put the designation or program name in the memo line (if known) and mail to:

    Gift Processing – 0999
    California State University, Chico
    400 W. 1st St
    Chico, CA 95928

If you have questions about making a gift of this type, please contact giftservices@csuchico.edu or 530-898-4488 and/or a director of development.

  • Bank Transfers (ACH/Wire)

Gifts may be made directly to the University Foundation by domestic or international wire transfer. Before initiating a transfer, please contact the Executive Director of Development Jessica Harrington at jharrington10@csuchico.edu or 530-898-6776 with:

    • your name
    • anticipated gift amount and transfer date
    • sending financial institution
    • the fund or program you wish to support

Providing this information helps us identify and properly designate your gift when it arrives.

  • Give Stock and Securities

Giving appreciated stock that you've held for more than a year may offer significant tax advantages, including avoiding capital gains tax on the appreciation and potentially receiving a charitable income tax deduction.

Before initiating a transfer, please contact the Executive Director of Development Jessica Harrington at jharrington10@csuchico.edu or 530-898-6776 and provide:

    • your name
    • broker's name
    • the security and number of shares being transferred
    • anticipated transfer date
    • the fund or program you wish to support

This helps us identify your gift, direct it according to your wishes, and provide appropriate acknowledgment.

  • Employer Sponsored Matching Gifts

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions to the University made by their employees. Generally, the employee must complete and sign a form provided by their company. Check with your employer to find the procedures for your company.
