Transfer Credit
- Transfer Credit Timeline
As you progress through the admission process, your transfer work is received and processed by the Office of Admissions, where it is evaluated for admission eligibility, such as units completed and the Golden Four GE requirements (English Composition, Critical Thinking, Oral Communication, Mathematical Concepts & Quantitative Reasoning).
The Transfer Admission Eligibility Specialists in the Office of the Admissions work hard to review your coursework and have it posted to your record by your orientation date.
After term census (the fourth week of the semester), our team reviews your Degree Progress Report (DPR) and your transfer work to ensure that courses are correctly fulfilling missing (red) areas.
- Transfer Credit Evaluation
Abroad Work
- If you will be studying abroad through one of the programs at Chico State, many of them have courses pre-approved for GE. Visit the Study Abroad & Exchange webpage for more details: https://www.csuchico.edu/studyabroad/academics/pathway.shtml.
- If the country/city you plan to visit does not have pre-approvals on file, we can help you. Send us course descriptions and the areas of GE you are hoping to have fulfilled, and we will review the information and get back to you.
- If you would like abroad courses to be used for you major, minor, or certificate, this must be reviewed and approved by the department advisor. Find contact information for college advising here: https://www.csuchico.edu/academics/academic-advising.shtml
CA Community College
- The CSU system is mandated to use www.assist.org to evaluate transfer work from CA community colleges. When using assist, be sure to choose the correct Academic Year (term the course was taken) when searching for articulation agreements for specific courses and for use in GE.
- A maximum of 70 units of community college work can be applied to the 120-unit degree requirement.
CSU, UC, and Out-of-State Institutions
- Articulation agreements between CSU and UC are less common, so assist will not always work. Manual review of courses is needed.
- If you would like to propose a course to be used for your major, minor, or certificate, this must be reviewed and approved by the department advisor. Find contact information for college advising here: https://www.csuchico.edu/academics/academic-advising.shtml
- If you would like to propose the course to be used for GE, please contact our office.
Military
- A maximum of 30 units of military work can be applied to the 120-unit degree requirement.
- Military work can be posted to your record using a JST, DD-214, CCAF, and ACE transcript.
- Find more information on the Veterans Education and Transition Services (VETS) webpage.
Test Credit
- AP, IB, and CLEP
- The Chancellor's Office determines the passing scores for external examinations(opens in new window) to receive university credit and, when appropriate, the CSU General Education requirements and the United States History, Constitution, and American Ideals graduation requirements, effective Fall 2025. This CSU-approved list of external examinations does not apply to Cal-GETC certification areas. Refer to the Cal-GETC Standards(opens in new window) for Credit by Exams.
