Master’s Commencement Ceremonies

Congratulations! This May, the University will hold a graduate-only in-person ceremony as well as two virtual ceremonies for master's students. First determine which Class you are in.  Read this information before you register.   

  • Class of 2020 graduates will have an opportunity to participate in an in-person ceremony at the stadium. They are not eligible to participate in the May 2021 virtual ceremony. They participated in a virtual ceremony last year.  Cap and gown is required.
  • Who is the Class of 2020? Eligibility to participate is limited to graduates from summer 2019, fall 2019, and spring 2020.
  • Class of 2021 graduates will have an opportunity to participate in both the in-person and a virtual ceremony.  Cap and gown is required for the in-person ceremony.  Cap and gown is not required for the virtual ceremony.
  • Who is the Class of 2021? Eligibility to participate is limited to 2020 summer graduates, fall 2020 graduates, and candidates for spring 2021 graduation.

  • Participation in commencement is not automatic. You must register using the form above to participate. Invitations to participate were delivered to your email from commencement@csuchico.edu.
  • Master’s students have a 3-semester window of eligibility. Eligibility to participate is limited to graduates from the Class of 2021 which is summer 2020, fall 2020, and candidates for spring 2021 graduation.
  • Use your CSU, Chico Wildcat username and password in order to gain access to register. The registration form is not accessible from any other email account including campus staff email or personal Gmail accounts. Sign-out of your Gmail or staff email first, and then login to your @mail.csuchico.edu account.

Cap and Gown is available to purchase at the Wildcat Store through May 23.

Grad Gift Box, Optional Video/Photo, and Grad T-Shirt

  • Grad Gift Box: All master’s students from the Class of 2021 have the option to receive a Grad Gift Box. Receipt of a Grad Gift Box is not automatic.  Please use the commencement registration link referenced above to request a box and enter your current mailing address.  You are not required to participate in the virtual ceremony to receive the box.
  • Students are not required to record a video.  The photo, message, and video are all optional.  Students can choose to do one, two, or none.
  • Master’s students will not receive a Grad T-shirt.

The in-person master’s ceremony is for graduates only. Masks and social distancing will be required. No guests will be allowed. Friends and family can watch a livestream from home.

  • Class of 2020 participants will receive an email from Marching Order to record an example of their name pronunciation. Name pronunciation is due April 28. (Note: This step is optional. All names will be recorded and read. This April 28 deadline is an extra service to provide correct pronunciation to the professional name reader.)
  • Graduate Instructions

    May 20 at University Stadium

    Graduates are required to arrive dressed in full regalia and carrying a ticket and ID (like a Wildcat ID or driver's license). Your ticket will be emailed to you by May 12 if you registered for the in-person event. The ceremony is for graduates-only. Loved ones should watch from home. All in-person ceremonies will stream simultaneously from the Chico State homepage.

    Graduate Instructions

    The ceremonies are for graduates only. Masks and social distancing are required. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m.

    No guests may park in University parking lots or gather in the vicinity of University Stadium. The ceremonies will not be visible from outside the stadium. University Staff and Police will be monitoring the perimeter.

    Friends and family should watch the livestream from home which will stream simultaneously with each ceremony from the Chico State homepage.

     • Arrive 45min before your ceremony starts to intramural fields 6/7 behind University Stadium.

    Graduates must be dressed in full regalia. Master’s graduates wear the tassel hanging on the left-side of the mortarboard. You will be carrying the master’s hood into the Stadium over your right arm so that you can place it over your head when instructed to do so by President Hutchinson. Make sure that the hood is unbuttoned.

    • Have a valid photo ID (ex: Wildcat ID, driver’s license) and ticket available upon arrival. They will be checked at multiple points. Your ticket will be emailed to you by May 12.

    • Graduates must wear a mask at all times.

    • There will be a drop-off area in the health center parking lot.

    Parking

    • Parking is available at University Stadium. Enter from Warner St. – adjacent to the health center. The lot will open one hour ahead of each ceremony.

    • Be prepared to display your Commencement ticket and regalia for entry. Your ticket will be emailed to you by May 12.

    • No guests may park in the lot or gather in the vicinity of University Stadium.

    • Other University parking lots are also available.

    • Please visit the Parking Services website for more information.

    Accessible Parking

    • Accessible parking spaces will be available in the University Stadium parking lot.

Important Dates and Deadlines

Class of 2021 (Eligible to participate in virtual ceremony, in-person ceremony, and Grad Gift Box delivery)

  • April 9 – April 25: Regalia is available for purchase from Herff Jones.(opens in new window) Full regalia is required for in-person ceremonies. It is optional for virtual-only graduates. Regalia will be shipped to graduates’ homes. Virtual graduates may choose to purchase individual items—like a cap and tassel—instead of a full regalia package. There is no dress code for virtual ceremony photos.
    • Purchase by April 25 for standard shipping
    • Purchase by April 29 for rush shipping
  • April 13 – May 10: Submit photo, personal message, and video clip to StageClip for the virtual ceremony. Choose a photo that represents your personality or college experience. There are no regalia or dress code requirements for the virtual ceremony. Videos are limited to 10 seconds. Personal messages are limited to 150 characters. An email was sent to your Wildcat Mail email address with the link.

Class of 2020 (Eligible to participate in the in-person ceremony)

April 28 – Submit name pronunciation. Class of 2020 participants will receive an email from Marching Order to record an example of their name pronunciation.
