2023 Statewide CSU Student Research Competition

San Diego State University hosted the 37th Annual CSU Student Research Competition, which was conducted in-person from April 27-29, 2023.

Ten delegates were chosen from the winners of the local CSU, Chico Student Research Competition to compete against winners from all 23 CSU campuses. The aim of both the local and statewide competitions is to promote and acknowledge exceptional student scholarly research and creative activities. Participants were required to present a summary of their research and deliver a 10-minute presentation to a panel of judges and audience members. The clarity of purpose, appropriateness of methodology, interpretation of results, articulation of research, and the ability to answer questions from the jury and audience were the criteria on which their work was evaluated.

We would like to thank the San Diego competition coordinators for their significant time and effort put into the statewide competition. 

We are excited to announce that two of our delegates placed in their session this year:

Congratulations to Christopher Robinson, a Social Work master's student, who placed second in his session presenting his research entitled "Child Welfare Social Worker Retention: The Relationship of Secondary Trauma and Pandemic Stressers." Christopher's faculty mentor is Professor Judy Vang.

Congratulations to Sam Lloyd-Harry, an undergrad in Mechanical Engineering, who also placed second in their session presenting on "Effects of Temperature on the Mechanical Properties of Pegda-hydrogels at Various Concentrations." Their faculty mentor is Ozgul Yasar.

The exceptional presentations delivered by each of our students who represented Chico State at the competition made us proud. Their hard work and commitment to their areas of study were evident in their outstanding performances.
