2024 Statewide CSU Student Research Competition
Kudos to our student delegates, who proudly represented Chico State at the 38th Annual CSU Statewide Student Research Competition, which was hosted at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo from April 26 to 27, 2024.
This two-day event brought together student scholars and researchers from all 23 CSU campuses. It featured 200 presentations across 23 simultaneous sessions, during which undergraduate and graduate students showcased their research, scholarship, and creative works.
Chosen from the winners of the local CSU, Chico Student Research Symposium, the twelve delegates competed against students from across the CSU. Both the local and statewide competitions aim to highlight exceptional student scholarly research and creative endeavors. Participants were tasked with presenting a summary of their research and delivering a 10-minute presentation to a panel of judges and audience members. Criteria included clarity of purpose, appropriateness of methodology, interpretation of results, articulation of research, and the ability to field questions from the jury and audience.
We would like to thank the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo committee that put this event together: the Office of Student Research in partnership with the Office of the Vice President of Research and the Division of Research, with additional support provided by the Office of the Provost.
We are excited to announce that four of our delegates placed in their session this year:
- Isabel Araujo, an anthropology master's student, placed second in her session presenting her research entitled "Making Stewardship First: Community and Collaboration in Collections Management Policy." Isabel's faculty mentor is April Kamp-Whittaker.
- Isa Cook, an advanced manufacturing and applied robotics undergrad placed second in their session presenting their research entitled "Material Analysis of PLA Shiitake Composite." Isa's faculty mentor is Dylan Sanders.
- Sam Lloyd-Harry, an undergrad in mechanical engineering, placed second in their session presenting on "Effects of Varying PEGDA: PDMS Ratios and Polymer Concentration on the Mechanical Properties of Tissue Engineering Scaffold." Their faculty mentor is Ozgul Yasar-Inceoglu.
- Rocci Vizzusi, a psychological science master's student, placed second in his session presenting on "Exploring the Mechanisms Linking Childhood Trauma to Adult Depression." Rocci's faculty mentor is Alexander Wong.
Congratulations delegates!
We are immensely proud of all our students for their expertise and professionalism in presenting their research. Their hard work and commitment to their areas of study were evident in all of their outstanding presentations.
