McNair Program Details and Benefits
McNair Scholars Program

Juniors and Seniors will benefit from:
- Individualized advising and counseling to deepen exploration, preparation, and commitment to advancing to graduate education;
- $2800 Fellowship annually to support participation in Faculty-mentored undergraduate research development;
- Access to workshops and presentations tailored to support your research and graduate school goals including writing support for graduate program applications, scholarships, fellowships applications & more;
- Support and funding for professional conferences, research competitions, and other professional development opportunities;
- Campus visits to Doctoral institutions;
- Connection with campus resources to support academic and personal success;
- Challenge Imposter syndrome and increase your sense of belonging
McNair Program Commitment
As a McNair Scholar, you will be expected to engage in program activities, including workshops, presentations, and advising sessions each semester with McNair Scholars Program Director & staff. Continued funding will be contingent on active participation and engaging in required program activities to include the following:
- Participation in *2025 Summer Research Institute facilitated by McNair Scholars Program and program partners. McNair Summer Research Institute will be mandatory.
(Hybrid schedule/July 2025) - Two advising sessions per semester with McNair Scholars Project Director & McNair Staff
- One meeting per semester with McNair Faculty Research Coordinator
- Three workshops and/or events each semester from McNair and Graduate Studies offerings
- Completion of the Graduate Pathway Portfolio before B.A./B.S. Graduation (GRAD Portfolio)
- Participation in the Chico State Student Research Competition March 2026
- (Optional for Juniors/Required for Senior Scholars)
