McNair Scholars Program

The Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program aims to increase the number of McNair-eligible students at California State University, Chico, who pursue and attain their graduate degrees. The McNair Program will provide services to low-income/first-generation and underrepresented minority participants and offer intensive support to at least 25 McNair Scholars per year in an intentionally designed pathway to postbaccalaureate degree programs, most particularly doctoral degrees.

Focused Graduate School Support
  • Receive support in exploring, preparing for, and applying to graduate programs at Chico State and other institutions.
  • Participate in seminars, workshops, conferences, and the Chico State Student Research Symposium.

Research Fellowship Experience
  • McNair Scholars are paired with mentors who guide their research and professional development. This mentor-mentee relationship not only helps in advancing academic work but also creates a personal connection that can provide emotional and professional support throughout the graduate journey and beyond.
  • Students receive a $2,800 research fellowship to help support their research expenses, including purchasing materials, accessing specialized equipment, traveling for fieldwork, and attending academic conferences.
