Juan Vega Ramirez 2022 Outstanding Thesis Award Winner

Juan Vega Ramirez, MA History, was selected winner of the 2022 Outstanding Thesis award for his thesis entitled Proselytizing Modernity: Reexamining the Summer Institute of Linguistics’ Tenure in Mexico, 1934-1979.
The selection committee praised the thesis for its clarity, eloquence, and insight, noting "Vega provides new insight and perspective on issues earlier commentators had defined in simple dualistic terms...His thesis is a work of modern historical scholarship in every way, and is worthy of this year’s Outstanding Thesis award."
The selection committee commended Vega Ramirez's high quality scholarship as well as the amazing support provided by the faculty coordinators and advisors, Stephen Lewis, Jeffrey Livingston, and Hannah Burdette.
Vega Ramirez's name and the names of his graduate advisory committee members will be engraved on the Outstanding Thesis plaque that hangs permanently in the Office of Graduate Studies.
