FAQ - General Information

Do I need an appointment?  What can I do if I fall ill or get injured and I don’t have an appointment?

Walk -ins are accepted. Appointments can be made for non-urgent medical issues.

When is the Health Center open?


Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesday : 9:20 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What is included in the prepaid health fee that I pay every semester?

As an eligible student, the appointment or medical visit and other basic diagnostic testing are included in the prepaid health fee. Other out-of-pocket costs are minmal and discounted.

Can I buy medicine at the Health Center?  What are my payment options?  Are prescription cards accepted?

There is a pharmacy located inside the Health Center where you can pick up your prescriptions and over-the-counter medications. You can use your Visa or Mastercard or Wildcat dollars. Family PACT cards are accepted in the pharmacy. The Pharmacy does not accept any other prescription cards.

Does the Health Center have real doctors and nurses?

The Health Center is staffed by 4 full-time Board Certified, licensed physicians, 2 part-time licensed physicians, and 5 family nurse practitioners. We also have 2 licensed vocational nurses, 2 registered nurses, 3 medical assistants, 2 clinical laboratory scientists and 2 pharmacists.

Are any orthopedic services offered at SHC?

The Student Health Service provides services to treat musculoskeletal problems. Our physicians and mid-level practitioners are able to treat/diagnose many orthopedic problems. If casting is required because of a fracture or if orthopedic surgery is necessary, a patient is referred to an orthopedic specialist outside of the facility.

How can I prepare for my appointment?

All students are required to bring their student I.D. to each visit at the Student Health Center. Patients are responsible to know the details of their medical history, the names of any current medications and the contact information of the primary care doctor or specialists you may be seeing off campus. Please bring your insurance information in case referral is required.

How do I get a note to drop a class?

Clinic policy requires that you have been established and treated for the condition here at SHS. If another health care provider has been seeing you off campus, please contact that office to request verification of illness.

Are dental services available?

SHS does not have a dentist on site. Low cost dental care is available with Ampla Health and Northern Valley Indian Health Services
