Medication Safety

  • Using Medications Safely
Antibiotics: What You Need to Know

Antibiotics treat bacterial infections, but they are not effective against viral illnesses like colds or the flu.

    Why It Matters

Misuse of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance, making infections harder to treat.

    How to Use Antibiotics Responsibly

    • Only take antibiotics when prescribed
    • Complete the full course of treatment
    • Do not share or reuse leftover antibiotics
  • Antibiotic Resistance

Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria evolve and no longer respond to treatment.

    Impacts include:

    • Harder-to-treat infections
    • Increased medical costs
    • Greater health risks
  • Medication Safety Alerts
    Emergency Birth Control Warning

Be cautious of unapproved emergency contraception products that may be circulating in the U.S. These may be unsafe or ineffective.

Always consult a pharmacist or healthcare provider when selecting emergency contraception.

Emergency Contraception (Morning-After Pill)

Emergency contraception is available at the pharmacy.

  • Plan B: $12.00 + tax
  • Ella: May be available at no cost with a Family PACT card
