Daniel Crispino

Music and Theatre Department

Major: I’m currently a music education major with a double minor in agriculture and child development.  Essentially, I want to become a music teacher and stay connected with the agriculture community. My plan with my child development minor is to better understand and work with students.

Hometown: My hometown is 50 miles north of Chico called Red Bluff. I was born and raised there.

When are you expecting to graduate?

I am expected to graduate in spring 2023

What’s it like to be a student at Chico State?

There is a lot of sense of community at Chico State. The people around here are so friendly and the professors are wanting to get to know their students. I have gotten to know many staff and faculty here and they have been such a positive influence on me. There is also so many organizations and clubs to get involved with. I have only completed a year at Chico State and I have already made many memories as well got attached to the university!

How do you like living in Chico?

Coming from a small town, moving to Chico was a big difference. There was so much to see and walk. My favorite place to relax is at Bidwell Park because there is so much nature that surrounds it and the Chico Creek runs by it. The Thursday farmers market that goes from the end of spring to early fall, has also been one of my favorite community events to be at. There is also a lot of performances that happen throughout the year. Many talented people come to Chico and they are so much fun to watch.

What would be your most important advice for incoming freshman?

My most important advice to an incoming freshman is “Do what your heart desires and put yourself in a spot that will make you happy”. There is so much to do at the university and it is fun to get involved. If a student likes music, then they should join a music ensemble. If it’s not music then there are many other options like agriculture organizations, leadership, community service, education, sports, diversity, business, and so much more. The best type of learning is by doing and experience.

What do you plan on doing when you graduate from Chico State?

Once I graduate with my undergrad, my plan is to move on to the credential program and then begin teaching. Once I have taught for a few years, I plan on going back to school to get a masters in either conducting or music education.
