College of Humanities & Fine Arts

Angela Heartsong

Art & Art History Department

Major: Studio Arts with emphasis in Fine Art Photography

Hometown: I've lived in many different places, but California is where I call home. (I was homeless and moved around so much as a child and teen that I do not have a hometown)

When are you expecting to graduate?

I am expecting to graduate Spring 2021, and I will be the first person in my family to receive their degree.

What’s it like to be a student at Chico State?

I came in as a transfer student with fears about being able to find friends, do well in my classes, and in need of community. I quickly found my groove here at CSU Chico, my professors are excited about their classes, I found peers with similar interests and goals, and I have been given the support I needed to succeed. It's been an amazing experience so far!

What’s been your favorite class at Chico State and why?

That's a hard question! 3D Design with Trevor Lalaguna because he has an amazing ability to foster creativity and community in his classroom, and History of Photography with Tom Patton because the history of photography methods and artists is incredibly rich.

What would be your most important advice for incoming freshman?

Don't be scared to ask for help, from your professors or your peers! There are so many amazing resources that this school offers, and they are there for you when you need them. Everything from food assistance, tutoring, mental health resources, and career guidance.

What do you plan on doing when you graduate from Chico State?

After graduation I plan on applying to Artist residencies and also MFA programs, my goal is to move into teaching and art administration.
