BA in Art
Overview
The Department of Art and Art History is dedicated to developing students’ expressive, analytical, and critical skills, their creativity, knowledge of aesthetics, and awareness of global art history. The Bachelor of Arts degree offers emphases in art history, ceramics, digital media, drawing, glass, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.
Mission
The department supports the Bachelor of Arts as a liberal arts degree focusing on visual art within a broad program of general studies. The Department is dedicated to developing students’ expressive, analytical and critical skills, familiarity with art history, their creativity and knowledge of aesthetics. Additionally, the Bachelor of Arts in Art prepares students for continued studies and for professional certificates.

- For our students to understand the foundation principles of art.
- In Art Education and Art Studio this takes the form of design concepts
- In Art History this is the use of paper writing skills for the purpose of research.
- For our students to have the ability to discuss artwork relative to conceptual and historical concepts.
- For our students to understand the characteristics of their chosen media.
- In Art Education this includes the understanding of the basic elements in a variety of media.
- In Art History this includes the ability to locate and analyze artistic and literary topics from various sources.
- In Art Studio this includes in-depth skills in one or more media.
- For our students to develop their creativity as used for personal expression.
- In Art Education this includes the use of creative expression in a variety of media.
- In Art History this includes the ability to apply art historical concepts to students research interests.
- In Art Studio this includes in-depth use of creative expression in one or more media.
