Health and Human Services Majors

About

Our Team A group of some CSU, Chico faculty and students who make up this task force

The Health and Human Services Majors Task Force started as a group of people trying to meet a need. Many students want to work in the healthcare field, to help or work with people, but do not know which majors lead to careers with that focus.

Currently, the task force includes these academic programs: biology, child development, communications sciences and disorders, communication studies, exercise physiology, health services administration, journalism and public relations, kinesiology, nursing, nutrition and food sciences, psychology, public health, science education, social sciences and social work.

There are also non-academic programs in the task force including: Academic Advising, Admissions, Career Center, Orientation/New Student Programs, Butte County Public Health.

Where We Are

Currently, the task force focuses on the education of current Chico State students about the Health and Human Services majors on our campus. This work is primarily focused on the 500+ pre-nursing students but welcomes all students. To accomplish this task, we worked on the following projects:

  • Applied for and received CSU, Chico Student Success Funds
  • Met with potential students at Chico Preview Day
  • Met with all campus advisors to discuss our task force, goals, and to promote the majors (February 27, 2020)
  • Established a social media presence (created Facebook and Instagram accounts)
  • Developed this website
  • Organizing student events to showcase health and human services majors
  • Developed a strategy for information sessions scheduled during Summer Orientation
