Matthew Thomas teaches for the Honors Program as well for the Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice. Thomas earned a PhD from the University of Maryland and researches urban politics, especially in New Orleans, and on criminal justice topics relating to including work on police strength, concealed weapons on campus, and the impacts of AB 109 and Prop 47 on California’s criminal justice realignment agenda. In 2016-17, Thomas received Chico State’s Outstanding Faculty Service Award.
